Raktamokshana
Raktamokshana in Ayurveda
Raktamokshana, or bloodletting, is one of the five purification therapies in Ayurveda known as Panchakarma. This ancient technique is used to cleanse the blood and remove toxins, offering relief from various blood-related disorders and chronic conditions. Raktamokshana is highly effective in treating skin diseases, inflammatory conditions, and certain types of pain by purifying the blood and balancing the doshas, particularly Pitta.
At Guna Ayurveda Vizag, our expert practitioners carefully assess each patient’s condition to determine the appropriate method of Raktamokshana. The procedure typically involves the following steps:
Assessment: A detailed evaluation of the patient's condition, including their Prakriti (body constitution) and the nature of the imbalance, is conducted.
Preparation: The patient may undergo preparatory treatments such as Snehana (oil application) and Swedana (steam therapy) to open up the channels and soften the tissues.
Bloodletting: Depending on the condition being treated, blood may be drawn using techniques like leech therapy, needle pricking, or venous puncture. The amount of blood removed is carefully controlled.
Post-Treatment Care: After the procedure, the patient is advised to rest and follow specific dietary and lifestyle recommendations to enhance the healing process.
