PURIPANDA SANTHA KUMARI MEMORIAL
Ringworm, despite its name, is not caused by a worm but rather by a fungal infection. It appears as a red or silver rash on the skin that is typically circular or ring-shaped, hence the name.
Ringworm can affect the scalp (tinea capitis), body (tinea corporis), groin area (tinea cruris or jock itch), feet (tinea pedis or athlete's foot), or nails (tinea unguium). It spreads through direct skin-to-skin contact with an infected person or animal, or by touching contaminated surfaces such as floors, towels, or clothing.
Symptoms of ringworm vary depending on the affected area but generally include itching, redness, and the development of circular or oval-shaped patches on the skin. In some cases, the rash may have raised edges and central clearing.
